Weekly Weather Outlook 1.7.24

It’s Sunday, and it’s time for our weekly forecast update. We’ve got a busy week ahead with significant weather developments.

Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Western IL and is expected to be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning in the next 24 hours.

As many of you may be aware, there’s a potent winter storm brewing in Illinois. The most substantial impact is expected along the Quincy-Peoria-Rockford line, where we anticipate 3-5 inches of snow, with some areas possibly receiving up to 8 inches. Coupled with high winds reaching 40-45 mph, these conditions are likely to create blizzard-like scenarios where the snow is falling. This wintry event is anticipated to commence on Monday and extend into early Wednesday.

Heavy rain is also possible for areas that see rain as QPF is between 1.00-1.50”.

Once this system moves out of the region, our attention turns to another weather system gearing up for the end of the week and into the weekend. Notably, this upcoming system has access to cold air, making it more conducive to snow. While the potential for significant impacts exists, it’s crucial to exercise caution with early predictions. Given that it’s a week away, if you come across snowfall projections for the weekend showing substantial amounts, it’s advisable to approach them with some skepticism.

Potential system for next week.
