Hot weather to return

Enjoy the cooler weather this week, as another heatwave is on its way to Central Illinois. The Climate Prediction Center forecasts above-average temperatures for the area over the next 2 weeks.

Models are showing temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, starting as early as Sunday, September 3rd. Temperatures in the mid-90s, combined with dew points in the mid to upper 60s, will contribute to high heat index values across the area once again.

Precipitation is expected to be below average, with ensemble models showing little in the way of appreciable rain. We did receive over 1.00″ of rain from the last round of storms, but the potential for another flash drought lingers.
