Persimmons are often featured in folklore as a means of predicting the upcoming winter weather. According to this tradition, the shape of a persimmon seed’s kernel can be used as a forecast tool.
The kernels can take on one of three shapes: spoon, fork, or knife. A spoon-shaped kernel suggests an anticipation of substantial snowfall, likely requiring ample shoveling. If the kernel resembles a fork, it signals a milder winter ahead. However, if the kernel resembles a knife, be prepared for cold, biting winds that feel as sharp as a blade.
