A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Mount Vernon, IL area during the evening hours of Sunday, December 17, 2023.
The earthquake, which registered 3.1 on the Richter scale, shook communities around the Mount Vernon area around 10:10 PM CDT. Residents in Mount Vernon and surrounding communities reported minor shaking.
