2023 Annular Eclipse

An Annular Eclipse will occur on October 14, 2023. This eclipse will be visible over all of the United States.

What is an Annular Eclipse? An Annular Eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun at its greatest distance. Because the moon is at its furthest point, it doesn’t completely block the sun during any part of the eclipse.

For us here in the Pana area you can expect approximately 50% of the sun to be covered by the moon during the eclipse. Below is a graphic showing what percentage of the sun will be blocked by the moon.

Time of the eclipse

The eclipse will start around 10:30 AM CDT and end around 1:30 PM CDT. Times are approximate and may be slightly different depending on different geographic locations.

Safety and viewing

Never look directly at an annular eclipse without special eclipse glasses!
